Chapter 24 - HE BEGGED TOO LATEThe divorce took eight months.

No war.
No public smear campaign.
Dorian instructed his attorneys not to invoke the morality clause against Arielle.
He also challenged Evelyn’s trust control.
The legal fight shifted from marriage to corporate governance.
Evelyn lost two board allies.
Then her chairmanship.
Cambria disappeared from Savannah society for a time.
Not because Arielle destroyed her.
Because the rooms Cambria wanted so badly became places where everyone knew the footage.
Some friends stayed.
Most did not.
Arielle had mixed feelings.
Public disgrace could become its own cruelty.
But Cambria had engineered public humiliation first.
Consequences were not always vengeance.
Dorian attended therapy.
Arielle knew because he told her once.
She replied:
“Good.”
Nothing more.
He did not use therapy as proof he deserved her back.
That was another sign he was changing.
Months later, they met to sign final papers.
Dorian wore no wedding ring.
Arielle had stopped wearing hers the night of Asterleigh.
He signed.
Then looked at her.
“I loved you badly.”
Arielle’s hand paused.
“That’s an interesting sentence.”
“I kept thinking love was enough to excuse my failures.”
“And?”
“It isn't.”
She signed.
Dorian smiled sadly.
“I hope someday someone loves you better.”
Arielle looked at him.
“I hope someday you become someone who can.”
May you like
He understood she did not necessarily mean with her.
They left separately.
