Chapter 16 - SHE SAW EVERYTHINGThe server was named Tessa Green.

Twenty-three.

Graduate student.

Worked events on weekends.

She had been carrying champagne when Cambria fell.

“I saw it.”

Arielle’s throat tightened.

“All of it?”

“Yes.”

“You saw me touch her?”

“No.”

“Why didn't you say anything?”

Tessa looked ashamed.

“Everyone was staring.”

“That isn't an answer.”

“I needed the job.”

Again.

Money.

Fear.

Silence.

Tessa continued.

“I took a photo accidentally.”

“What?”

“I was photographing the floral setup for my supervisor.”

She opened an old cloud backup.

One image.

Cambria mid-step.

Arielle’s hands clearly holding her wine glass.

No contact.

Cambria’s body already leaning backward.

Dorian far across the room.

The photo did not show deliberate intent.

But it proved one thing:

Arielle had not pushed Cambria with her hands as Cambria claimed.

Dorian saw the photograph that evening.

He sat alone for a long time.

Then called Arielle.

She answered.

“I'm sorry.”

Silence.

“I know that isn't enough.”

Correct.

“I saw the picture.”

“And?”

“You didn't touch her.”

“No.”

Dorian’s voice broke.

“I hit you.”

“Yes.”

“I hit you because she lied.”

“No.”

Dorian stopped.

Arielle’s voice remained calm.

“You hit me because you chose not to ask.”

May you like

He closed his eyes.

That distinction would haunt him longer.
