Chapter 12 - DORIAN’S BLINDNESSDorian noticed the contradiction at breakfast.

Cambria had appeared at his office uninvited.

He refused to let her upstairs.

She waited in the lobby.

Dorian came down.

“You need to stop.”

Cambria looked wounded.

“I’m trying to help.”

“You destroyed my marriage.”

“Your wife did that.”

Dorian’s jaw tightened.

“No.”

Cambria stepped closer.

“She hit me.”

Dorian stared.

“You said she shoved you with both hands.”

Cambria blinked.

“Yes.”

“At the gala you told me she slapped you first.”

Silence.

Cambria recovered.

“She did both.”

Dorian felt something shift.

“Which happened first?”

“Why are you interrogating me?”

“Answer.”

Cambria’s eyes filled instantly.

Dorian had once found tears persuasive.

Now he noticed how quickly they arrived.

“She slapped me.”

“Which side?”

Cambria hesitated.

Dorian remembered seeing no mark.

Nothing.

Not even makeup disturbed.

“She hit me here.”

Cambria touched her left cheek.

Dorian recalled her crying with the right side toward him.

No redness.

Nothing.

He stepped back.

Cambria noticed.

“Dorian.”

“You lied.”

“No.”

“You changed the story.”

“I was traumatized.”

“Did Arielle touch you?”

Cambria went pale.

“Dorian…”

He walked away.

For the first time since Asterleigh, he knew.

Not hoped.

Knew.

May you like

He had hit his wife because Cambria lied.

And he had never even looked closely enough to notice.
