The Man Who Wanted the Fortune
Ethan revealed that Richard's company had been used for an enormous financial scheme.
Victor Hale was involved.
But he wasn't the mastermind.
The real controller was someone inside the family.
Henry demanded a name.
Ethan refused.
"Your grandfather wanted you to discover it yourself."
"Why?"
"Because he didn't know who to trust."
Ethan handed Henry a recording.
It showed a private meeting.
Victor sat across from a woman.
Henry recognized her immediately.
His mother.
But she looked different.
Older.
Harder.
She placed a folder on the table.
Victor opened it.
Inside was a list of offshore accounts.
Henry stared.
"She was working with Victor."
Ethan nodded.
"At first."
"What happened?"
"She turned against him."
"Why?"
"Because she discovered what happened to your father."
Henry watched the recording.
His mother whispered,
"You promised he wouldn't be hurt."
Victor replied,
"Your husband knew too much."
The recording ended.
Henry couldn't breathe.
His mother had known.
She had tried to stop Victor.
But she had disappeared because Victor threatened Henry.
Then Ethan revealed the final piece.
Richard had discovered the betrayal.
He had spent years secretly protecting Henry's mother.
"Where is she now?"
Ethan handed him an address.
Maine.
Henry stared at the paper.
The same place Daniel had warned him about.
Then Leo began growling.
Ethan looked toward the window.
Victor's black SUV was parked outside.
