Leo Recognizes the Killer

The lights suddenly went out.
Henry, Ethan, Thomas, and Leo remained inside the dark mansion.
Outside, car doors slammed.
Men were approaching.
Ethan whispered,
"They're coming."
Henry looked at Leo.
The lion was staring at the hallway.
A man entered through the back door.
Leo immediately reacted.
He growled.
Then he charged forward.
The man froze.
Henry recognized him.
Victor Hale.
Victor raised his hands.
"Stay back."
Leo stopped inches away.
The lion stared into Victor's eyes.
Then he began roaring.
Henry realized something.
Leo had seen Victor before.
Not at the funeral.
Not at the company.
Years ago.
Henry remembered the photographs.
Victor had been present during his father's final days.
"You were there," Henry said.
Victor's expression changed.
"You saw my father."
Victor said nothing.
Henry stepped closer.
"You were there when he died."
Victor finally spoke.
"Your father was going to destroy everything."
"You killed him."
"I didn't."
"Then who did?"
Victor looked toward Thomas.
The lawyer went pale.
Victor said,
"Ask him."
Henry turned.
Thomas closed his eyes.
"I was there."
Henry's heart sank.
Thomas admitted he had witnessed the confrontation.
But before he could explain, a gunshot echoed.
Victor fell.
Everyone froze.
The shooter was outside.
Ethan rushed toward the window.
Henry looked at Leo.
The lion was staring at a figure escaping across the garden.
And Henry suddenly realized the truth.

The killer wasn't trying to silence Victor.
The killer was trying to make Victor look guilty.
