Later that morning, Detective Laura Mitchell arrived at Cedars Medical Center.
She had already reviewed the security footage.
Now she needed medical confirmation.
Dr. Rebecca Lawson met her outside Emily's room.
"The injuries are consistent with two separate falls," the doctor explained.
"The second impact caused significantly more trauma."
"Could the second fall have been avoided?"
Dr. Lawson answered without hesitation.
"Yes."
"If the person supporting Mrs. Harrison had maintained their grip..."
"...she almost certainly would not have fallen again."
Detective Mitchell wrote down every word.
Inside the hospital room, Emily slowly opened her eyes.
Ethan immediately stood beside her.
She smiled weakly.
"Is the baby..."
"The heartbeat is strong."
Emily closed her eyes in relief.
Then she whispered,
"I remember something."
Ethan leaned closer.
"When Victoria helped me stand..."
"I felt her fingers let go."
"She didn't lose her grip."
"She released me."
Those words matched the security footage perfectly.
