# A Fall at Sunset

## Chapter 6 — The Ambulance Rush

The ambulance arrived within minutes.

Paramedics rushed through the mansion gates carrying a stretcher while frightened guests stepped aside.

Ethan refused to leave Emily's side.

One medic carefully examined her abdomen.

Another checked the baby's heartbeat with a portable fetal monitor.

The silence felt endless.

Finally...

A faint heartbeat filled the air.

Emily burst into tears.

Ethan closed his eyes in relief.

"Baby's still alive," the paramedic said.

"But she's showing signs of abdominal trauma."

"We need to leave now."

As Emily was carefully placed onto the stretcher, she reached for Ethan's hand.

"I'm scared..."

He squeezed it tightly.

"I'm coming with you."

Across the garden, Victoria remained surrounded by family members.

One hand covered her reddened cheek.

Tears streamed endlessly down her face.

"I was only trying to help..."

"It was an accident..."

Several relatives comforted her.

Others looked uncertain.

Only Ethan ignored every word she said.

Before climbing into the ambulance, he turned toward his younger cousin.

"David."

"Don't let anyone leave this property."

David nodded immediately.

"What are you thinking?"

Ethan's eyes never left Victoria.

"I know what I saw."

The ambulance doors slammed shut.

As the sirens echoed into the Los Angeles evening...

Victoria quietly watched them disappear.

For the first time that night...

A flicker of fear appeared behind her carefully crafted innocence.
