Chapter 16 — A Father's Second Chance

# The Stepmother's Lie
## Chapter 16 — A Father's Second Chance
Life slowly found a new rhythm.
Daniel no longer buried himself in work.
Every morning he drove Lily to school himself.
Every evening they ate dinner together.
Business meetings no longer came before family.
One afternoon Lily asked,
"Dad?"
"Can we plant something for Mom?"
Daniel smiled.
"I'd love that."
Together they planted a white magnolia tree in the mansion's garden.
Sarah had always loved magnolias.
As they covered the roots with fresh soil, Daniel looked at his daughter.
"I owe you an apology."
Lily tilted her head.
"For what?"
"For not seeing what was happening."
She gently took his hand.
"You see me now."
Those four words brought tears to Daniel's eyes.
He realized forgiveness wasn't something he deserved.
It was a gift Lily had chosen to give him.
That evening he removed several framed business awards from his office wall.
In their place he hung photographs of Sarah...
And Lily.
For the first time in many years...
His office reflected what mattered most.
