The Second Grave

The gunman disappeared before police arrived.

Nobody was seriously injured.

But the message was clear.

Someone wanted them dead.

Edward finally agreed to tell the full story.

Black Ridge had involved an illegal weapons transfer.

The seven soldiers accidentally witnessed it.

Instead of allowing them to return home, their superiors ordered them detained.

Michael Reed escaped.

William discovered the truth years later.

He secretly contacted Michael.

Together they began collecting evidence.

Then Michael disappeared again.

Edward had been searching for him ever since.

Henry asked,

"Where is Michael now?"

Edward looked toward Samuel.

"I don't know."

Samuel lowered his head.

For twenty years, he had believed his son was dead.

But the evidence suggested otherwise.

Then Edward revealed something shocking.

"There was another burial."

"What?"

"Twenty years ago."

"One soldier was secretly buried under a false name."

Henry stared.

"Who?"

Edward said,

"Michael."

Samuel's face collapsed.

"Where?"

Edward gave them coordinates.

A small cemetery two hours away.

They traveled there the next morning.

The grave was old.

No family name.

Only a military number.

Samuel knelt.

He touched the stone.

"My son."

But Atlas suddenly walked past the grave.

He stopped at another headstone.

He sniffed it.

Then began digging.

Henry rushed forward.

"Atlas!"

The dog refused to stop.

The cemetery caretaker came running.

After several minutes, a metal box was uncovered beneath the soil.

Inside was a photograph.

Michael Reed.

Alive.

Standing beside William.

And behind them was a third man.

General Thomas Whitaker.
