Someone Had Followed the Dogs

The hard drive contained thousands of files.
Financial records.
Military documents.
Photographs.
Audio recordings.
Names.
Dates.
Payments.
Everything.
The Black Ridge operation had been covered up for twenty years.
But there was something else.
Security footage.
William had recorded meetings between Victor Hale and several military officials.
The evidence was overwhelming.
Henry called federal investigators.
But before they arrived...
The lights in the cemetery went out.
Edward grabbed Henry.
"Move."
A vehicle approached.
Two men stepped out.
Titan growled.
Atlas stood beside him.
The men stopped.
They weren't afraid of the dogs.
One raised a weapon.
Edward pushed Henry behind a stone monument.
Then Samuel appeared.
He struck the man's arm with his cane.
The weapon fell.
Police arrived seconds later.
Both men were arrested.
One confessed.
Victor Hale had ordered them to recover the hard drive.
But he had another order.
"Kill the dogs."
Henry felt sick.
"They wanted Atlas and Titan dead?"
The man nodded.
"Those dogs were trained by William."
"What did they know?"
The man looked toward Atlas.
"Everything."
Henry stared at the dogs.
Atlas sat quietly beside the grave.
Titan remained standing.
For the first time, Henry understood.
The dogs weren't simply grieving.
William had trusted them with his final mission.
And they had never forgotten it.
