The Photograph in the Military Trunk

The discovery of Michael Reed's identification tag changed everything.

Samuel had spent twenty years believing his son was dead.

Now the tag suggested otherwise.

Henry immediately asked the cemetery staff to secure the area.

No one was allowed near the coffin.

Meanwhile, Samuel returned to his vehicle.

From the trunk he removed an old military storage case.

It was covered in dust.

He placed it on the table.

"This belonged to William."

Henry opened it.

Inside were maps.

Photographs.

Military documents.

And dozens of handwritten notes.

Most were written in William's handwriting.

Henry began reading.

BLACK RIDGE — SECONDARY LOCATION.

UNKNOWN SURVIVORS.

KANE LIED.

Samuel leaned over.

"Look at this."

Henry found a photograph.

It showed seven soldiers standing outside a military compound.

But one person had been circled in red.

Michael Reed.

Beside his photograph William had written:

**HE SURVIVED.**

Henry looked at Samuel.

"Why didn't Grandpa tell you?"

Samuel's eyes filled with tears.

"Because whoever was responsible was still watching."

Henry continued searching.

Another photograph showed a warehouse.

A date was written beneath it.

Twenty years ago.

Samuel pointed to the building.

"That's where the operation disappeared."

Henry looked closer.

On the side of the warehouse was a symbol.

A black triangle.

Samuel's face changed.

"I've seen that before."

"Where?"

"On the military report."

Henry pulled out the original file.

The symbol appeared there too.

But it had been hidden beneath a black marker.

Someone had tried to erase it.

Henry looked at Samuel.

"Who uses this symbol?"

Samuel whispered,

"An organization that officially doesn't exist."
