Samuel's Final Confession

Samuel finally admitted something he had hidden for twenty years.

He had known Michael was alive.

William had told him.

But Samuel had never told anyone.

Not even his own family.

Henry felt betrayed.

"You knew?"

Samuel nodded.

"I was protecting him."

"You let my grandmother believe her son was dead."

"I had no choice."

"You always had a choice."

Samuel lowered his head.

"Your grandfather asked me to keep the secret."

Henry walked away.

Edward followed him.

"Your grandfather wasn't trying to hurt anyone."

Henry stopped.

"He could have trusted us."

"He did."

Edward handed him the cassette recorder.

"That's why he left this."

Henry played it.

William's voice filled the room.

If you're hearing this, I'm probably dead.

Henry closed his eyes.

William continued.

"There is corruption inside the military."

"I tried to expose it."

"I failed."

"But I discovered who controls it."

A pause.

Then William spoke one name.

"Victor Hale."

Edward froze.

Samuel stared at him.

Henry asked,

"Who is Victor Hale?"

Edward answered,

"The man who owns the company."

"The company that supplied the weapons?"

"Yes."

William's recording continued.

"Victor Hale knows about Michael."

"He knows about Rachel."

"And he knows about the evidence."

The recording ended.

Henry looked at Edward.

"Where is Victor?"

Edward's answer was terrifying.

"At your grandfather's funeral."

Henry turned toward the window.

Among the people standing outside the cemetery...

One man was watching them.
