## Chapter 16 — A Baby Born Against All Odds
Six weeks after the incident, Emily went into labor unexpectedly.
Doctors rushed her into the delivery room at Beverly Hills Medical Center.
David never let go of her hand.
"You can do this," he whispered.
Emily smiled weakly through the pain.
"I'm more worried about him."
Several specialists surrounded the hospital bed.
Because of the injuries from the fall, the delivery carried significant risks for both mother and child.
Hours passed.
Outside the delivery room, Emily's parents sat silently, praying.
Even Officer Jennifer Lawson stopped by after hearing the news.
Finally...
A baby's loud cry echoed through the hallway.
The delivery room doors opened.
Dr. Rebecca Morgan stepped outside with a smile.
"Congratulations."
"You have a healthy baby boy."
David broke down in tears.
Moments later, the nurse placed the newborn into Emily's arms.
His tiny fingers wrapped around hers.
Emily kissed his forehead.
"You fought before you were even born."
"And you won."
For the first time since that terrible day inside the shopping mall...
The Carter family cried tears of happiness instead of fear.
