Mall security supervisor Carlos Ramirez hurried into the surveillance control room.
More than one hundred cameras covered every hallway, escalator, entrance, and luxury boutique.
"Bring up Camera Twenty-One," he instructed.
The technician nodded.
"The center atrium."
The footage appeared on the large monitor.
Officer Jennifer Lawson from the Beverly Hills Police Department had already arrived.
She folded her arms as the recording began.
Emily entered the frame first.
Walking slowly.
Smiling.
One hand resting gently on her pregnant belly.
A few seconds later...
Sophia appeared.
She followed several yards behind.
Jennifer narrowed her eyes.
"Pause."
"Zoom in."
The technician enlarged the image.
Sophia wasn't shopping.
She wasn't looking into store windows.
Her eyes never left Emily.
Jennifer quietly said,
"She was following her."
The recording continued.
Everyone inside the room watched in complete silence.
They all knew...
The truth was only seconds away.
