Season 2 Chapter 2 — A Signature From the Dead

Chapter 2 — A Signature From the Dead
The silver key remained on Ethan's desk all night.
Neither he nor Lucas could identify the lock it belonged to.
There were no markings.
No numbers.
Only a tiny engraved symbol identical to the one Ethan had discovered beneath his father's old desk.
Someone wanted him to find something.
The only question was whether it was a gift...
or another trap.
The next morning, Ethan received an unexpected phone call.
It was his family attorney.
"Mr. Harrison, I think you should come to the courthouse immediately."
"What happened?"
"I'd rather show you."
Within an hour, Ethan arrived downtown.
The attorney placed a freshly filed legal document on the conference table.
"I've already verified it twice."
Ethan glanced at the final page.
His entire body froze.
The signature belonged to his father.
Perfectly written.
Every letter matched.
Every stroke identical.
The filing date...
was two years after his father's funeral.
"This isn't possible," Ethan whispered.
The attorney nodded.
"That's exactly what I said."
Experts had already examined the ink.
The paper.
The official seals.
Everything was authentic.
The document had legally transferred ownership of an unknown property into Ethan's name.
Yet nobody had informed him.
For twenty years.
"Where is the property?" Ethan asked.
The attorney slid over a map.
"It isn't listed under any public address."
Only geographic coordinates.
Deep inside the mountains of Northern California.
Lucas studied the map.
"I've been there before."
Ethan turned.
"When?"
"When I was a child."
Lucas looked disturbed.
"My father took me there once."
"What was there?"
"I don't remember."
"You don't remember?"
Lucas shook his head.
"I only remember one thing."
"What?"
"There was a massive steel door built into the side of the mountain."
Silence filled the room.
Ethan slowly reached into his pocket.
He placed the silver key beside the map.
Lucas stared at it.
His eyes widened.
"I've seen that key."
"Where?"
Lucas swallowed.
"Hanging around the neck of the man everyone believed killed your father."
Before Ethan could respond, Rachel burst into the room holding her phone.
"Ethan..."
Her voice trembled.
"You need to see this."
She handed him the screen.
A live security camera from the Harrison mansion.
Someone dressed entirely in black had entered the property.
The figure wasn't stealing anything.
He wasn't searching the house.
He walked directly toward the old study...
and stopped in front of the empty black box.
Then he slowly looked up.
Straight into the security camera.
Before leaving, he raised one sheet of paper toward the lens.
Only six words were written across it.
"You opened it too early."
