Season 2 Chapter 10 — Why They Chose Sophie
Nobody spoke during the drive home.
The sentence echoed inside Ethan's mind.
**"The fifth key has already chosen its owner."**
A key could not choose anyone.
Unless it was never about the key.
Daniel spread every recovered document across the conference table.
"There are five founders."
"There are five keys."
"But only four living bloodlines."
Lucas looked up.
"What do you mean?"
Daniel pointed at Charles Ashcroft's file.
"He never had children."
Eleanor quietly interrupted.
"That's what everyone believed."
Every head turned toward her.
"He had a daughter."
Silence filled the room.
"What happened to her?" Ethan asked.
"She disappeared after the organization split apart."
"Did she die?"
"I never found proof."

No return address.
Inside was an old photograph.
A little girl stood beside Charles Ashcroft.
On the back was one handwritten line.
**"The Keeper remembers."**
Beneath the photograph rested a train ticket.
Departure:

Destination:
San Francisco.
Tomorrow morning.
No explanation.
No note.
Only the ticket.
Lucas looked worried.
"It's a trap."
"It probably is," Ethan admitted.
"But if someone wanted me dead..."
"They've had years."

Inside lay the final brass key.
"I've been waiting twenty years to give this to you."

"Who are you?"
The woman smiled sadly.
"My name is Victoria Ashcroft."
"The last daughter of Charles Ashcroft."
She gently closed Ethan's fingers around the fifth key.
Then she whispered:
"The Chairman knows you're here."
