"The Man Inside the Wardrobe / Chapter 14 / 23

Season 2 Chapter 6 — Emily's Final Confession

Ethan Harrison stood motionless inside the mansion's security room.

The woman outside the front gate did not move.

She simply waited.

Calm.

Patient.

As though she had expected this meeting for decades.

The guard looked toward Ethan.

"Should I call the police?"

Ethan hesitated.

Every instinct told him this was dangerous.

But another voice reminded him of his father's letter.

**Search for the founders.**

He nodded slowly.

"Bring her inside."

---

Five minutes later, Eleanor entered the Harrison mansion.

She walked through the marble hallway without looking around.

Almost as if she had walked those halls many years before.

Emily, Lucas, and Daniel gathered in the living room.

No one spoke.

Eleanor's eyes finally settled on Ethan.

"You have your father's eyes."

Ethan remained standing.

"You knew my father."

"I knew him better than anyone."

Daniel stared at her.

"Eleanor Brooks."

She smiled sadly.

"So someone still remembers my name."

Ethan folded his arms.

"My father wrote letters about you."

"I know."

"He believed someone wanted you dead."

"They did."

"Then how are you alive?"

Eleanor looked toward the fireplace before answering.

"Because I disappeared before they could finish what they started."

---

She slowly removed a small silver necklace from beneath her coat.

Inside the pendant was an old photograph.

Five young people stood together.

Ethan immediately recognized three faces.

His father.

Richard Harrison.

Lucas's father.

The remaining two were Eleanor...

and Charles Ashcroft.

"The five founders," Ethan whispered.

Eleanor nodded.

"We believed we were building something that would protect family businesses from corruption."

"But it became Blackwood."

"No."

She shook her head.

"Blackwood came later."

"The Ashcroft Initiative was meant to stop criminals."

Her voice became heavy.

"Instead...

the criminals took control of it."

---

Lucas leaned forward.

"My father never told me this."

"He couldn't."

"Why?"

"Because he signed an oath."

Emily frowned.

"What oath?"

Eleanor looked directly at Ethan.

"If any founder revealed the complete truth...

every member of that founder's family would become a target."

Silence filled the room.

Suddenly Ethan understood why his father had hidden everything.

Not because he didn't trust Ethan.

Because he loved him.

---

Eleanor opened her handbag.

She placed an old cassette tape onto the table.

"Your father recorded this one week before he died."

Ethan's hands trembled.

"You've had this all these years?"

"I promised I would never give it to anyone...

unless Richard failed."

Daniel inserted the cassette into an old recorder.

Static filled the room.

Then a familiar voice emerged.

Ethan's father's voice.

"If you're hearing this...

Richard has already lost.

But don't celebrate.

Because Richard was never the man giving orders."

The tape suddenly stopped.

Halfway through the sentence.

Someone had deliberately erased the remaining recording.

Eleanor lowered her head.

"They found the original before I could."

Ethan stared at the broken tape.

The biggest answer his father ever left behind...

had been destroyed.
