Season 2 Chapter 3 — The Woman Beside His Father

## Chapter 3 — The Name Hidden Inside the Final Document
Ethan Harrison had spent two nights staring at the final document his father left behind.
It contained only one sentence.
**"The Harrison family secret was never the only secret."**
No explanation.
No signature.
No clue about where to begin.
Yet Ethan couldn't ignore the feeling that his father had expected him to understand something hidden beneath those words.
After everything that had happened, Ethan trusted nothing at face value anymore.
Not documents.
Not memories.
Not even his own family history.
---
Daniel Reeves arrived at the mansion early the next morning carrying a magnifying lamp and several archived records.
"I've examined hundreds of hidden documents," Daniel said. "Your father never wrote unnecessary words."
Ethan placed the paper on the table.
"So what am I missing?"
Daniel studied the page for several minutes.
Then his expression changed.
"The ink."
Ethan frowned.
"What about it?"
"This sentence wasn't written at the same time."
Daniel carefully shined ultraviolet light across the paper.
Slowly, faint handwriting began appearing beneath the original message.
Almost invisible.
Someone had written over older text to hide it.
Ethan's pulse quickened.
"What does it say?"
Daniel leaned closer.
Only part of the sentence could still be read.
**"...Trust no Harrison except..."**
The rest had faded beyond recognition.
The room became silent.
Ethan stared at the hidden message.
His father had not been warning him about strangers.
He had been warning him about his own family.
---
Later that afternoon, Ethan returned to the abandoned Harrison estate.
After Richard's arrest, federal investigators had searched every room.
They believed they had collected every important document.
Ethan no longer believed that.
His father had always hidden important things in ordinary places.
Inside the old library, Ethan walked slowly past rows of dusty books.
Something caught his attention.
One shelf looked cleaner than the others.
He pressed against it.
Nothing happened.
Then he noticed a small brass keyhole hidden behind a row of books.
The same key Richard had carried for years suddenly came to mind.
Federal agents had logged every item taken from Richard's personal belongings.
Including an old brass key nobody could identify.
---
By evening, Ethan obtained permission to inspect the evidence.
The key fit perfectly.
With a quiet click, the bookshelf slid open.
Behind it was a narrow room no larger than a closet.
There were no paintings.
No jewelry.
No money.
Only dozens of cardboard archive boxes.
Each labeled with a different year.
1979.
1982.
1986.
1991.
Every year long before Ethan founded his company.
Long before he met Emily.
Long before Blackwood Capital entered his life.
Daniel opened the first box.
Inside were newspaper articles.
Private letters.
Financial ledgers.
And one thick folder marked only with a single word.
**FOUNDERS**
Ethan opened it.
The first page contained five names.
His father's name.
Richard Harrison.
Two unfamiliar businessmen.
And another name that made Ethan stop breathing.
**Lucas Miller Sr.**
Lucas's father.
Ethan looked up slowly.
"My father and Lucas's father weren't just friends."
Daniel nodded.
"They built something together."
---
The second page was worse.
It contained a handwritten agreement signed twenty-six years earlier.
The title read:
**The Ashcroft Initiative**
Ethan had never heard the name before.
But at the bottom of the document was a sentence written in his father's handwriting.
*"If this project is ever completed, no family involved will survive it."*
Ethan felt cold.
Blackwood Capital had never been the beginning.
It had only been one branch of something much older.
Something his father had tried to stop.
Something Richard had tried to control.
And something that still existed.
As Ethan closed the folder, a sealed envelope slipped onto the floor.
Across the front, his father had written only six words.
**"Open only after Richard falls."**
