Season 2 Chapter 4 — Blackwood Never Really Fell

Ethan Harrison stared at the sealed envelope lying inside the hidden archive.
Six words were written across the front in his father's unmistakable handwriting.
**"Open only after Richard falls."**
For several long seconds, neither Ethan nor Daniel Reeves spoke.
Richard Harrison had fallen.
He had been arrested.
His empire was gone.
His secrets had begun to unravel.
Which meant this envelope had been waiting for this exact moment for more than twenty years.
Ethan carefully broke the seal.
Inside was a handwritten letter and a small brass key.
The letter began simply.
*"If you are reading this, Richard has finally lost."*
Ethan continued reading.
*"You probably believe Richard was the architect behind everything that happened to our family. He was not."*
His heart skipped a beat.
*"Richard was ambitious, greedy, and dangerous. But even he answered to someone else."*
Daniel slowly lowered his glasses.
"So Richard wasn't the leader..."
Ethan kept reading.
*"The real organization was never called Blackwood Capital. That company was only a public face. The people behind it have operated under different names for decades."*
Another sentence had been underlined.
**"Never search for the company. Search for the founders."**
Ethan immediately looked toward the folder labeled FOUNDERS.
Five names.
His father.
Richard.
Lucas's father.
And two names neither of them recognized.
Daniel spread the documents across the table.
"They disappeared."
"What do you mean?"
"I've spent years investigating Blackwood. I've never seen these two names."
Ethan examined the signatures.
One belonged to Charles Ashcroft.
The other...
made his blood run cold.
**Margaret Harrison.**
"My grandmother..."
Daniel nodded slowly.
"I don't think your family was dragged into this."
Ethan looked at him.
"I think your family helped create it."
The room fell silent.
---
That evening Ethan drove alone to the federal evidence warehouse.
He requested access to Richard's confiscated belongings.
Most of the boxes contained expensive watches, legal files, and financial records.
Nothing unusual.
Then one evidence officer handed him a worn leather notebook.
"It was hidden inside a false compartment in Richard's desk."
Ethan opened it.
Every page had been ripped out...
except the last one.
Only one sentence remained.
**"He never forgave Eleanor."**
Ethan frowned.
Eleanor.
The name appeared for the first time in his family's records.
Not Emily.
Not Lucas.
Someone else.
Someone important enough for Richard to leave behind a single sentence.
Before Ethan could study it further, his phone vibrated.
It was Lucas.
"Ethan... leave the warehouse."
"What?"
"Leave. Now."
"Why?"
Lucas sounded terrified.
"They know you opened your father's envelope."
At that exact moment...
every light inside the warehouse suddenly went dark.
