Season 2Chapter 12: The Last Confession

Chapter 12: The Man Above Thomas

The red wax seal remained untouched.

No one reached for the envelope.

Rain continued falling across the abandoned Brooks estate, tapping softly against the steel chest.

Michael Brooks looked at Robert Ellis.

"You know who William Harrington is."

It wasn't a question.

Robert lowered his eyes.

"Yes."

Sarah Mitchell stepped closer.

"Then start talking."

Robert took a slow breath.

"For thirty years, everyone believed George and Thomas Brooks built Brooks Financial."

"They didn't."

"They built the company..."

"...but Harrington built the empire."

Michael frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Robert looked toward the ruined foundation of the old mansion.

"William Harrington was never listed as a shareholder."

"His name never appeared on any corporate records."

"He remained invisible."

Emily whispered,

"A silent partner."

Robert nodded.

"No."

"He was much more dangerous than that."

"He owned politicians."

"He controlled judges."

"He financed media companies."

"And every corporation he touched belonged to him... without anyone knowing."

Sarah's expression hardened.

"So Thomas worked for Harrington."

Robert answered quietly.

"Thomas thought they were partners."

"But Harrington never had partners."

"He only had employees."

Silence settled over the group.

Everything suddenly made sense.

Thomas hadn't created the fraud.

He had merely managed it.

The real architect had always remained hidden.

Sarah looked at the unopened envelope.

"What's inside?"

Robert shook his head.

"I've never seen it."

"But Daniel Carter knew."

"He left instructions for a reason."

Before anyone could answer—

An FBI agent hurried toward them.

"We've identified the dead driver."

Sarah turned.

"Who is he?"

"He wasn't FBI."

"He worked for Harrington Global Security."

Michael froze.

"Harrington..."

The name was no longer just history.

The organization still existed.

Sarah immediately contacted FBI headquarters.

Minutes later, her phone rang.

She answered.

Her face slowly changed.

"What?"

She listened silently.

Then ended the call.

Michael stepped forward.

"What happened?"

Sarah looked at everyone.

"William Harrington died..."

"...eighteen years ago."

Emily frowned.

"Then who's running everything now?"

Sarah answered quietly.

"Nobody knows."

"The company is controlled through anonymous trusts."

"No public owner."

"No visible chairman."

Robert whispered,

"Just like William wanted."

---

Meanwhile...

Nearly two hundred miles away...

Thomas Brooks stood inside the mountain cabin.

The television showed live helicopter footage of the FBI excavation.

He watched without speaking.

The young woman tied to the chair stared at him.

"If Harrington is dead..."

"...why are you still doing this?"

Thomas slowly smiled.

"Because dead men leave instructions."

He opened an old leather briefcase.

Inside lay dozens of handwritten letters.

Each one sealed.

Each marked with a future date.

The top envelope read:

Open Only If Daniel Carter's Evidence Is Found.

Thomas gently held it.

"Harrington planned everything."

"He even planned his own death."

The woman looked horrified.

"You've been following orders..."

"...from a dead man?"

Thomas looked at the envelope.

"No."

He smiled faintly.

"I'm following orders..."

"...from the person who inherited them."

Her heartbeat quickened.

"There... there's someone above you?"

Thomas slowly nodded.

"The real leader never wanted power."

"They wanted invisibility."

Suddenly—

His satellite phone vibrated.

Thomas answered immediately.

He listened.

Without saying a word.

Then he quietly replied,

"I understand."

The call ended.

Thomas looked toward the frightened woman.

"The game has changed."

He reached into his coat.

Removed a small key.

Unlocked her handcuffs.

She stared at him in disbelief.

"You're letting me go?"

Thomas smiled sadly.

"No."

"I'm giving you a choice."

He pointed toward the cabin door.

"You can run."

"Or stay."

"But if you leave..."

"...they'll find you."

"And if they find you..."

"...they'll find Emily."

The woman stood motionless.

She finally understood.

She had never been Thomas's prisoner.

She had been his shield.

Back at the Brooks estate...

Emily could no longer resist.

She picked up the sealed envelope.

"I have to know."

She carefully broke the wax seal.

Inside was only one sheet of paper.

No confession.

No documents.

No names.

Just one sentence written in Daniel Carter's handwriting.

William Harrington never had children...

...but someone inherited his empire.

Beneath the sentence...

A single photograph slid onto the steel chest.

Michael picked it up.

His blood ran cold.

The picture showed George Brooks...

Standing beside William Harrington...

And between them...

A smiling twelve-year-old boy.

May you like

Michael Brooks.
