Season 2 Chapter 15: A Legacy Finally Buried

Chapter 15: The Final Truth... Or The Beginning?
The screen went black.
No signal.
No sound.
Only silence filled the FBI command center.
Michael Brooks remained frozen.
His mother's face.
Thomas's smile.
The pistol against Elizabeth's head.
Those final images refused to leave his mind.
Sarah Mitchell immediately turned toward the communications team.
"Trace that transmission!"
Several agents worked frantically.
Thirty seconds later...
One technician looked up.
"We have a location."
Everyone turned.
"An abandoned Harrington estate."
"Twenty miles north."
Michael didn't wait.
"I'm going."
Sarah grabbed her jacket.
"So am I."
---
Forty-five minutes later...
A convoy of FBI vehicles surrounded the abandoned estate.
The mansion was enormous.
Older than the Brooks estate.
Hidden deep within a forest.
Every window was dark.
Every door stood open.
It looked abandoned.
Too abandoned.
Sarah whispered,
"Stay sharp."
The tactical team entered first.
Room after room...
Empty.
No furniture.
No footprints.
Nothing.
Michael reached the grand ballroom.
In the center of the room...
A single chair.
Elizabeth Morgan sat tied to it.
Alive.
Her mouth covered with tape.
Michael sprinted toward her.
"Mom!"
He untied the ropes.
Elizabeth embraced him tightly.
For the first time in thirty years...
Mother and son held each other.
Both cried.
Neither could speak.
Sarah searched the room.
"Where's Thomas?"
Elizabeth slowly removed the tape.
"He's gone."
Michael looked at her.
"He left you here?"
Elizabeth nodded.
"He said..."
"...his part of the story was over."
Sarah frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Before Elizabeth could answer...
A hidden projector suddenly activated.
The ballroom lights dimmed.
Thomas Brooks appeared on the massive wall.
A prerecorded message.
He smiled calmly.
"If you're watching this..."
"...then you've already won."
Michael stared at the screen.
Thomas continued.
"I killed Daniel Carter."
"I manipulated Eleanor."
"I used Andrew."
"I destroyed the Brooks family."
"Everything you've accused me of..."
"...is true."
Sarah quietly whispered,
"He's confessing."
Thomas nodded on the recording.
"But none of it mattered."
The screen changed.
Dozens of newspaper headlines appeared.
Financial scandals.
Political corruption.
Corporate fraud.
All connected to Harrington.
Thomas spoke again.
"William Harrington built an empire..."
"...that survived every man inside it."
Michael frowned.
"Why tell us now?"
Thomas smiled.
"Because I wasn't protecting Harrington."
"I was protecting the people who inherited it."
Elizabeth suddenly stood.
"No..."
Michael looked at her.
"You know."
Tears rolled down Elizabeth's face.
"I prayed you'd never discover this."
Thomas continued.
"William Harrington never had children."
"That part was true."
"But he had successors."
The screen changed again.
A list of names appeared.
Judges.
Senators.
Bank executives.
Media owners.
Corporate CEOs.
More than eighty names.
Sarah's face became pale.
"My God..."
Thomas looked directly into the camera.
"You spent two seasons chasing one man."
"You should have been chasing an organization."
Michael whispered,
"It's still alive."
Thomas nodded.
"And it always will be."
The recording reached its end.
"I'll leave you one final gift."
The screen switched to live security footage.
Someone was walking through FBI Headquarters.
Inside the evidence room.
Nobody recognized the man.
He quietly removed Daniel Carter's original documents.
Then calmly walked away.
No alarms.
No resistance.
Thomas smiled one last time.
"You never noticed..."
"...because one of them has always been standing beside you."
The recording ended forever.
Silence.
Nobody moved.
Sarah's radio suddenly crackled.
An agent shouted,
"Evidence Room Seven has been breached!"
"It just happened!"
Sarah's blood ran cold.
The live feed...
Hadn't been prerecorded.
It had been happening at that exact moment.
Michael slowly looked around the abandoned ballroom.
Thomas had escaped.
Again.
But this time...
He hadn't escaped to hide.
He had escaped because someone inside the FBI had just erased the last remaining evidence.
Elizabeth quietly picked something up from the chair where she had been tied.
A small black envelope.
She handed it to Michael.
Across the front, one sentence was typed.
FOR SEASON 3
Michael slowly opened it.
Inside...
There was only a single photograph.
The picture showed Michael sleeping inside his own bedroom...
Taken only two nights earlier.
On the back...
Someone had written seven chilling words.
May you like
"We've always been inside your family."
